Benjamin is one of my best friends in this industry. I first met him in the beginning of 2013 in Santa Barbara, Honduras. I was there to source coffee and met with Benjamin and his family, who runs the San Vicente mill and exporting company in Peña Blanca. Benjamin and San Vicente have done a lot for the coffee producers in their region, including contributing to the fame of Santa Barbara as a coffee region, and all this is shown by the number of finalists that place in the prestigious Cup of Excellence competition. Usually more than half of the finalists are from this beautiful region.
Benjamin decided to also get his own farm in 2015 and has been producing coffee there since. The farm is 3,5 hectares large, and Benjamin has planted Bourbon, Caturra, Catuai, Parainema, and Pacas varieties. For this year, I bought his Catuai. So far, this farm doesn’t have a name, so for now Benjamin calls it ‘No Name’.
A few years ago, Benjamin also purchased another farm near the village of El Cedral, which is called La Orquidea. He also has his own coffee shop in Peña Blanca, serving coffees from the producers in the area.
It is with great pleasure to be able to roast this coffee. I hope I do it justice, my friend.
